San Francisco fathers were the center of thousands of family gatherings yesterday, the day set aside for national observance of Father's day.
Father's also were honored guests at San Francisco's first annual public observance of Father's day, held in the roof garden dining room of the Furniture Mart building. Over 800 civic officials, guests and members of the Sunrise Breakfast Club gathered gathered there to pay him tribute.
Pete Maloney, chairman of the celebration, presented a shiny gold wrist watch to Champion Father John Nunan of 246 Scott street. At 51 Nunan has ten children between the age of 14 and 30. His wife Anita, saw the presentation.
Another feted guest was Daniel Franklin, 100 years and 2 months old, a resident of the Laguna Honda Home. Five of his nonagenarian pals were with him at the speakers' table.
Eneas J. Kane, secretary to Mayor Rossi, was speaker of the day. Following his talk, the city's departed fathers were honored with a eulogy.
At the speakers table were: Frankie Foss, Charles Foxx, William Benn, Dr. Leo McMahon, James Ralph III, Kate O'Connor, Thomas Toomey, Sheriff Murphy, James Rieden, Charles McDonald, Thomas Nessy, Samuel Handcock, Mark McCord and Ray Schiller.
